Expo 2010 Shanghai China — Better City, Better Life

2010

Expo 2010, officially Expo 2010 Shanghai China (simplified Chinese: 中国2010年上海世界博览会; traditional Chinese: 中國2010年上海世界博覽會; pinyin: Zhōngguó 2010 Nián Shànghǎi Shìjìe Bólǎnhuì) will be held in the city of Shanghai, China from May 1 to October 31, 2010 and is a scheduled World Expo in the tradition of international fairs and expositions. The theme of the exposition will be “Better City – Better Life” and signifies Shanghai’s new status in the 21st century as a premier global economic and cultural center. It is the most expensive Expo in the history of the world’s fairs. The expo Logo features the Chinese character 世 (‘world’, Chinese “shì”) modified to represent three people together with the 2010 date. It is also the largest World’s Fair site ever at 5.28 square km.

More than 190 countries and more than 50 international organizations have registered to participate in the Shanghai World Expo, the largest ever. China expects to receive almost 100 foreign leaders and millions of people from across the world to come and visit the World Expo. More than 70-100 million visitors are expected to visit the expo, the largest in history.

Editor Opinion:  It’s 1st May, and also known as International Labor Day, if you still got chance, do come to Expo 2010 Shanghai China,  you could “travel the whole world” in just one single day! But if you really can’t, just do this like Simon myself too, we could browse the Expo Online Tour to view all of the pavilions from every country and listening  to narration.  I think it will be still fun!

“ChunYun” – the Largest Mankind Migration in the World.

2010
02.23

Everybody knows Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year.  But I don’t think everybody know about Chunyun, the largest passengers transport in a short period in the world.  It starts between before and after Spring Festival, around 40 days,  0.21 billion people would be transported, mainly by train.

2010 Chinese Lunar New Year, also another unforgettable Chunyun.  Bitterness, hardness, and also a hope to go home and meet their family… …  on train, on bus or on plane…  anyway, it’s worth, no matter who you ask?

PS: Some Chinese Traditional Activities during Spring Festival

*Sweeping:  everyone will sweep on 24th, Dec.(Lunar), why?  Because sweeping dust means get rid of old stuff, bad luck something like that.  “dust” pronouncing the same as “old” in Chinese.

*Spring Festival Couplets:  people like to post couplets in front of their gates/doors, to make a good holiday phenomenon. And we also post Chinese “Fu” too, it means good fortune, and hope it will make us all year safe and good luck.

*Stay-Up at New Year Eve:   family in China will stay up at the last day of the year.  As  old saying, everybody gather together, and to keep away from Monster called “Nian”.  And now we also could stay together and watch Spring Festival Party on CCTV.

*Fireworks:  everybody will light fireworks(firecrackers) to celebrate on the first day of the New Year.  They also say its cracking sound could scare off the Monster “Nian”.  :P   But it’s now forbiden by most big cities for fire alarm.

*Rice Cake:  very trational food in Chinese New Year. Different ingredient from place to place in China.
